Okay big update!

Christopher has been back in the shop working feverishly after tending to some family matters last month. Forward post haste! There are some great frames moving through the cue. From 650B MTB to disc cyclocross. Things are really picking up after NAHBS. In order to help Christopher focus on the magic I’ll (Jim the partsguy!) be more involved and handling the wheel building. There always seems to be enough interest in the wheels that we feel it’s worth pursuing with vigor. More on that next week.

Speaking of wheels I have a few new Italian bits to build up some road wheels. With three thrilling weeks of the Giro just concluded how could I not buy some Italo-equipment! The Miche brand has always been interesting to this Campy guy and I’ve been pleased with the performance/value of the Miche cassettes. With the reduction of Campagnolo hub options(Record only now) they seem the obvious choice if budget is an issue. Nice simple alloy shell and cartridge bearing construction hubset. Bonus is they make a Shimano/SRAM freehub body too. So I can re-purpose these in the future if need be. The Velocity A23 rims look great and I can’t wait to check out the reported difference in ride quality.

Stay tuned as I’m cleaning out the basement and there are some scratch and dent frames we will be selling at a discount. So if you are a good match for the frame dimensions lucky you!

Keep the rubber side down!

Jim

Dateline: Saturday night. Bike run over by a VW bus at Providence CX. Tiny Russian’s heart crushed.

So I took this bike fixed it. I sawed off the front end (bent part), and replaced it with a new front. Happily painted by John Bowe of Underground Cycles, PPG application of Team Hotlime Green. Matt Roy laid his hands upon it as the master mechanic that he is, and solved all mechanical problems.

Also thanks to Scott Glowa for fixing the wheel, with help from Mavic.

Tiny Russian’s heart mended.

What a hoot! This is a Ritchey Breakaway frame and is my go to bicycle. I love having the fixed gear in three ratios. Endless fun!

So it’s all coming together here before the show.

The big surprise is the Driven NRZ road group that was sent over from our friends at Sunrace/Sturmey Archer. Boy is this some nice equipment. I have some pictures that Jim my build-kit assembler has taken. Let’s get his take too. “I can see this being competitive with the Dura-Ace or for the cynics Ultegra for sure. Looks to be top shelf all the way. A nice alternative to the ever increasing price tags on the usual fare. A budget conscious racer would appear to be well served on this kit. We’ll see for sure if I can sneak this on to my bike after the show!”
Until that happens this NRZ kit will be residing on one of the Cambridge Bicycles cyclo-cross team frames. This is going to look sharp. Exciting stuff!!!!!

Detail Shots.
Cranks and rear derailleur.

This is a very trick cassette. SRAM-esque with the unit machined as two pieces but out of 7075 aluminium with a ceramic coating for wear protection. Two top cogs together and the remaining eight cogs are impressively light and an amazing bit of machining.
